“Outfection” is a pulse-pounding blend of action, mystery, and heart. Perfect for fans of fast-paced thrillers with a deep emotional core. Narrated with cinematic intensity, this book keeps you on the edge of your seat as John Thimes, known only as “The Ghost,” evades global syndicates while waging a covert war to restore hope to a broken world.

Craig Stucko delivers a gripping narrative full of high-stakes tension, breathtaking escapes, and a romance that blossoms against all odds. Whether navigating ancient caverns, careening through high-speed chases, or unraveling family secrets, every moment crackles with suspense and humanity.

With themes of love, resilience, and the fight for justice, Outfection is more than a thriller, it’s a timely reminder that one person can make a difference.

For readers who crave Jason Bourne-level action fused with emotional depth, Outfection is a must-hear.

Reading Outfection felt like being dropped into a world where the air smells like juniper and every stranger might be more than they seem. From the first scene—John slipping into a hospital at 3 a.m.—I was hooked. I could almost feel the security guard’s eyes on me, the hum of the surveillance cameras, the quiet tension of not getting caught. Then, just as I settled into that suspense, the story slowed down into diner coffee, lemon pound cake, and small-town banter. I didn’t mind the shift; it made me feel like I actually knew the place.

The hike to Mercury’s Pinnacle was my favorite stretch. I swear I felt my own arms ache during John’s climb, and when Emily appeared at the top, all wind-tousled confidence, I liked her instantly. Their chemistry isn’t forced—it builds through shared moments, teasing, and the kind of mutual respect you get from seeing someone in their element.

I loved the way the author writes about setting. I could smell the firewood, see the waterfall in morning light, and taste that pound cake. Some scenes lingered a little long for my taste, especially when the plot’s bigger questions were still fuzzy, but the atmosphere always pulled me back in.

What stayed with me most wasn’t just the action—it was the quiet moments. The way John remembers his Grandpa Pete, the stillness before a hard climb, the feeling of sitting beside someone you barely know but want to trust. Outfection blends suspense, romance, and rugged landscapes in a way that makes you want to both turn the page and slow down to savor it. I closed the book already wishing there was a sequel.

This is a cursory and winding novel. Some might say the formatting and structure of story is “improper” and that it is too detailed in some areas. One reviewer for instance commented that it started out with a page and a half of details about a lobby, and that was boring.

I think the writing is well done, and the language is precise and uninhibited by sticky words all the way through, so it’s easy for the reader to sit back and get lost in the story, and to me, there’s no such thing as a well written novel that’s too long. By being shown every last possible detail in hi definition, a reader is allowed to become an observer, immerse themselves deeply into the world, and come to their own conclusions. It becomes the reader’s experience. For the reader that wants to be merely told what is important about the story in a surface level fashion, and by extension what their conclusions should be, well, this is not the story for you. Here you are shown a story, not told one. That is the way of a good novel.

Also, I don’t believe it is the job of a critic to simply blabber about liking this or liking that. When an writer or artist makes a decision about their craft, especially one that is unconventional, it is our job as readers to examine our understanding for why that artist has made that decision, as presentation in writing is as important to the process of finding meaning as the logos of descriptions and events. I find the writing style and paragraph structure to be much more reflective of the fragmented streams of experience that makes up the stories of our lives, it is cram-packed and it doesn’t explain itself to you, and it doesn’t apologize for what you don’t know, and it doesn’t wait. This effect of stream-of-consciousness writing is the intentional experience offered by writers like Arundhati Roy, or William Faulkner. But a book is unlike life in that you can close it, put it away, if you don’t like the moment you’re in. This book is meant to be lived with, for a reader who is willing to be shown, not merely led about from one plot device to another, and what culminates in the style of a great contemporary style writer is a single moment where suddenly you know you are forever changed and can never go back. This is one of those books. If you like to read for pure gratification, and think of yourself as a critic because you’ve developed a narrowminded set of expectations based purely on what pleases you, that’s fine, but DO NOT read books like this, that don’t let you go without being forced to think. You have to be willing to be deconstructed, to want to experience the full height and breadth and power of words. I promise, you will not like what will happen to you.

I just finished reading this book, and I have to say, I was impressed by how unique and layered the storyline was. I love when a story blends elements of action, romance, and a bit of the fantastical—this one does that well. From the start, I could visualize every scene thanks to the vivid descriptions, and I appreciated the attention to detail, even if at times it felt slightly overdone.

There were moments when I felt the pace slowed a bit too much, especially in the more technical or overly descriptive sections, but I stayed with it because the heart of the story kept pulling me back in. The emotional journey of the characters—especially their sense of purpose and personal sacrifices—gave the book real depth. I cared about what happened to them, which to me is the mark of a good read.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys a mix of real-world grit and magical realism, with a solid emotional foundation. It’s a thoughtful and ambitious story that left me thinking long after the final page.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Solid Read

Although the prose is a little lacklustre and the book itself could stand another round of editing to reduce the sheer volume of descriptors, it is a decent read with a solid plot driving steadily through. Hat’s off to any indie author who gets this far and is still willing to improve. Keep at it and look forward to the next one.

Outfection is a wild, fast-paced thriller that flips the usual outbreak story on its head—what if the danger isn’t something spreading in, but something leaking out? The concept is refreshingly original, and the tension builds with every chapter as secrets unravel and the lines between science and conspiracy blur. It’s the kind of book that pulls you in with its eerie premise and keeps you hooked with twists that actually surprise. A quick, thought-provoking read for fans of bio-thrillers with a side of paranoia.

This book reads like an action movie you can’t turn off. John (aka The Ghost) is constantly on the run, dodging syndicates, FBI eyes, and basically anyone who wants him dead, but he still finds ways to help people along the way. The chase scenes and escapes were intense, and the mix of mountains, caverns, and city car chases gave it a globe-trotting vibe without ever leaving the U.S. The love story with Emily adds a softer side that balances the danger nicely. Some parts felt a little over-the-top, but that’s also what made it fun—it’s pure escapism with just enough mystery to keep you hooked. If you like thrillers with conspiracies, high stakes, and a hero who won’t quit, this one delivers.

“Outfection” is a masterful blend of suspense, romance, and action that captivated me from the first page to the last. This novel, with its intricate plot and dynamic characters, truly stands out as a unique and thrilling read.

The protagonist, John Thimes, is a character that resonates deeply with the reader. His mysterious aura and the deep family secret he harbors add layers of intrigue to the story. Watching his determined fight against all odds was not only inspiring but also kept me on the edge of my seat. His clever strategies to evade capture while championing a noble cause make for a truly compelling narrative.

The relationship between John and Emily Bronson is another highlight of the book. Far from being a mere subplot, their love story is beautifully crafted, adding an emotional depth to the tale. Set against a backdrop of danger and chaos, their connection is a testament to finding love in the most unexpected places.

The author’s ability to bring various settings to life is remarkable. The vivid descriptions of mountainscapes and ancient caves are so immersive that I felt transported to those places. The action scenes, especially the high-stakes car chases, are written with such intensity and excitement that I felt like I was in the midst of the action.

What truly sets “Outfection” apart is its underlying message of hope and the resilience of the human spirit. Amidst the thrilling action and complex political backdrop of a crime syndicate, the book weaves a heartwarming tale of fighting against the odds for a better future. This theme resonated with me deeply, particularly in the context of today’s world, making the book not only entertaining but also incredibly meaningful.

In conclusion, “Outfection” is a must-read for anyone who loves a story that combines heart-pounding action with a profound message. The journey of John Thimes and the world he navigates is one that will stay with me for a long time. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a story that is as thought-provoking as it is exhilarating.
